Seafield Resources Ltd. and its subsidiary in Colombia, Minera Seafield S.A.S., recognize the importance of corporate social responsibility in its projects and operations. We also recognize the positive impact that we are able to have on the communities where we operate. Seafield develops partnerships with community stakeholders and aims to be a leader in social responsibility. Our strategy for being a responsible exploration and mining company is centered upon our commitment to employing local people where possible, advancing community initiatives through funding and partnership, and instituting an effective environmental management strategy. Socio-Economic Aspects
Facilitating development through the transfer of skills and knowledge is one of the most significant contributions an international mining company can make to a community. Positions at our corporate offices in Medellin include: lawyers, accountants, technical and office staff. In the field, we have a wide range of Colombian full time and part time employees and contractors, including: geologists and field crews, recent university graduates, equipment operators, drivers, office staff, general labour and more. Our field office is located in the historic mining town of Quinchía, where the Company’s presence has a positive impact on the local economy.
Employing local workers can be economically advantageous to Seafield as it reduces the need to import personnel and reduces travel and accommodation expenses. In return, our aim is to further develop local skills while also benefitting the community.
Community Assistance
Another important pillar is aiding in the development and enrichment of the community by providing funding for local initiatives. We have taken the initiative to fund a number of community programs both independently and in tandem with other stakeholders. Seafield has contributed to community events in San Pedro, San Pablo and Miraflores. We have also worked in partnership with the municipal government in Miraflores to retrofit the Miraflores’ school. Commitment to cultural and educational programs that help build mutual understanding between our company and the local community is an important objective for Seafield.
Environmental Initiatives
Seafield Resources is focused on creating shareholder value without neglecting the impact that operations have on the local environment. In doing so, our operations have a comprehensive environmental plan that seeks to limit our footprint. Construction of access roads and drill sites are developed with an emphasis on mitigating any long-term effect on the surrounding environment. Water and residual solid management programs have been instituted to insure minimal impact. We have a transparent program for stakeholders to address any issues they may have. It is within this framework that we remain conscientious of the environment in our operations.
